Why File Uploads Fail (and How to Fix Them)

Last updated: October 26, 2026

Uploads from phones fail far more often than from desktops, usually because of the network rather than the file. Work through this checklist.

1. Check the size limit

Each share has a total size limit (shown on the upload screen, 50 MB by default) and a file-count limit. If one file is larger than the space left, it is rejected. Split large videos, or compress a folder into a ZIP to stay within the count.

2. Keep the screen on

Mobile browsers pause background tabs to save battery. If you switch apps or lock the phone mid-upload, the transfer can stall. Keep the page open until every file shows Uploaded.

3. Switch networks

Public and office Wi-Fi sometimes block uploads or drop long connections. Try mobile data, or move closer to the router. Failed files show a Retry button, so you don't have to start over.

4. Check the file type

If the upload screen lists allowed types, files with other extensions are refused. Renaming a file's extension doesn't change what it is — convert it instead.

5. "Too many uploads right now"

To keep the service fair, there is a short rate limit. Wait a minute and try again.

6. Clear site data as a last resort

If the page behaves oddly, clear the site's data in your browser settings and reload. Note that this also removes your ability to revoke shares created earlier on that device.
